They're also a trigger for allergens and asthma. Today I'm going to show you how to deal with these pests organically. There are three major species of cockroaches that can be problems indoors: German, Oriental and American. German cockroaches are by far the most common type to cause an
infestation. Oriental and American cockroaches are usually only problems in very damp humid areas. When it comes to controlling cockroaches you need to use an integrated pest management system. Using just one type of control won't eliminate the problem and it won't prevent it from reoccurring again.

Control cockroaches through sanitation, exclusions and perhaps chemical control. The first step is exclusion. If the cockroaches can't get into your kitchen they can't infest it. Use weather stripping around your doors and windows. Keep shrubs trimmed so they're away from the house.

Caulk small cracks in the walls and where wires come into the house. If you don't have indoor pets or small children you can also put down some crawling insect killer in front of vents to kill roaches trying to come in the house. If you're bringing in a piece of furniture or an accessory into the home from outside be sure and vet it very carefully to make sure that there's no roaches hitching a ride, remove trash or stacked firewood from against your home.

These can provide places for hiding roaches. Cockroaches like dark warm places to hide so check your meter box and irrigation boxes regularly. Cockroach populations in these areas may easily make it indoors. if you do find evidence of cockroach populations inside you can spray with a product that's labeled for cockroaches indoors like this orange guard.

Inside your house practice sanitation. Remove sources of food water and hiding places to make your kitchen unattractive to roaches. Store your food in plastic or glass containers that cockroaches can't get into. Vacuum the back of cabinets, the back of drawers, to be able to vacuum up any food or egg cases or roaches. Use a flashlight and mirror to check for hard to see places. Check for egg cases, roach skins and possible food droppings.

Be sure and check under your sink for leaks. Cockroaches could get thirsty and try to find water underneath. Remove stacks of magazines, bags or other places that roaches might hide. If you can't remove a likely hiding place you can place sticky traps like this insect magnet to monitor your control strategy. Use metal cans with secure lids to prevent roaches from getting inside your trash cans.
Be sure and practice monitoring exclusion good sanitation and organic controls and keep these baddies out of your kitchen and grow organic for life.
You need new techniques
and new strategies… well we’ve got you covered… it’s time to suit up and let the battle begin.
It’s that lovely time of year where picnic tables and food scraps are running a muck. But
you don’t have to let the ants ruin your lovely camp out or picnic.

Always bring some extra containers with you such as Tupperware or deep disposable plates… I found some pie tins that were perfect. By simply placing the legs of the table into the containers we’ll be able to make an effective barrier against creepy crawlies that are trying to make their way
to the top. Just fill each one with water and they won’t get far. Your picnic moat is complete.

Check this video:

Now obviously, the best way to avoid an ant infestation is to make sure you leave nothing
they want readily available. The sugar left over on something even as tiny as the lip
of a soda can, is enough to send one little soldier back to his nest for backup.
So before you toss your cans and bottles in the bin, give them a light rinse to remove any
sweet coating that might remain. And keep in mind, just because you don’t see anything,
doesn’t mean it’s not there. So make sure to always rinse your recyclables before they
get stored.

If the ants have already penetrated your defenses, you can start by making your own traps to
protect areas you suspect they might be interested in. Get some Sugar, some water and some borax.
While borax might not be in everyone’s home, it’s worth the short trip to the grocery
store to pick it up and it’s usually found in the laundry section. As far as homemade
ant killers go, borax is going to sit at the top of the list as it’s ant slaying abilities are legendary.

Get yourself a small container and add 3 tablespoons of sugar directly to it. Now grab that borax
and add only 1 tablespoon. You don’t want the borax to overpower the sugar
or the ants won’t take the bait.

I’ll be using tiny and cheap containers to hold the mixture. Pour enough in to cover
the bottoms and you’ll need to add just enough water to make a syrup from the powders.
I simply dipped a straw into a glass of water and dripped it over the mixture. You can always
add more water later. So, go slow with this and begin mixing everything together until it runs kind of like maple syrup. Be sure to keep it out of the reach of children and animals. While borax is a common item, it should not be consumed under any circumstances, which is another reason why I’m using a seal-able container and adding many access holes around it so that the ants can get in
Once you have everything mixed, just place the trap and give it a few days to clear things out.

Remember, you want the ants to come and go so they can get back to the colony.

Don't Kill Them!
While a simple trap might work on its own you usually need to combine methods. That means, you need to find the ant colony. If you knew where they were coming from, it would be far more effective to destroy them at their source. Now if you can’t find a visible trail of ants, you can simply spray a little vinegar near it which will usually send it back the way it came so you can follow it home.

Slowly and patiently follow it back. If you want to avoid any harsh chemicals that could harm your yard growth this is the one for you. Just run a hose up to the ant’s home and turn it for about 10 minutes. You really want to saturate the dirt and send the ants packing. Just do it daily until all activity ceases.

Now there is a far more effective way to do this. Simply throw a pot of water on the stove and mix in a healthy amount of cayenne pepper to make this more potent. Vinegar will work too if you don’t have any cayenne. Once the water reaches a full boil, ask someone to get the door for you and grab the container carefully with oven mitts on.

Take the boiling water over to another ant colony and slowly pour anywhere you see access holes or live ants. The boiling water will kill them on contact and wash them away. We need to get rid of the pheromones that the ants left in your home for the others to follow. You do this after the problem is solved because you want the ants to take any poison they find back to their nest.

It’s simple… get a spray bottle or container and fill it half full with vinegar, and fill the rest with water, mix in few drops of dish soap for good measure and hit those nooks, crannies, baseboards and entryways until you feel confident there is no trail left to follow.

If you have a strong cleaning product such as bleach or Lysol… those will work just as well if you don’t care about the more natural mixture. So that’s it! Remember, truly getting rid of ants is a multi-step process if you want it to last. Just follow our tips you’ll be well on your way to winning the first battle. We put out two videos a week so make sure you’re subscribe and Let us know if there’s anything else you need help "getting rid of" in the comments.
Well, Myth 1 Rinse the can method is pointless unless you wash the cans in the dish washer or wash them in the sink like normal dishes ants still come. Also its been a tiresome 2 weeks and nothing happened with the fire ants and sugar ants with the borax & sugar so Myth 2 is a bust( yes I followed their instructions ). Boiling water is a given it will kill everything so why torture yourself by steaming the kitchen with cyan pepper? Instead of using vinegar use Clorox wipes to clean up the chemical trail they leave behind.
I have a cat that I don't want to accidentally harm with Borax, so with the help of Pinterest. I found out that if you mix equal parts POWDERED sugar, equal parts baking soda, and equal parts water, you'll make this cool nontoxic ant killer. You just get a cotton ball and roll it around in the mixture. It only works once it dries, so you can just place it down wherever you see ants, and after it dries it'll take effect. I usually place it on a little piece of aluminum foil. The powdered sugar attracts the ants, and the baking soda kills them slowly so they bring little pieces of the cotton ball mixture back to their colony and kill even more ants.... For years I've feared summer because I hate ants. They literally were everywhere, I'm not even exaggerating. It's just cause of the location I live in. Since I've tried this, I've seen very few ants.

Oof hi Goo
ants have invaded my downstairs bathroom and i tried vaccum cleaning them but they keep coming trough litlle holes in the walls they are crawling on the floor too. i feel like crying, my parents wont do anything. They also invaded our hallway. IM SO SCARED MY ANXIETY IS GONNA RUIN ME
edit: they are completely gone now thank god.
Omg I have a ant phobia and I was spraying my bathroom because there were HUNDREDS OF THEM IN THERE. Like I was freaking out. At that point I was balling my eyes out and they keep coming back...like why???
Christine Davis
10 Peppermint oil drops in distilled water in a medium spray bottle, the ants hate crossing it ,so I paint it on the skirting boards with a wide silicon pastry brush just kept for this, and around any where they might get in like window ledges and around the door frame step ,spiders hate this to and I also paint the dustbin lids to keep the spiders and flies off ,when it rains just spray again, inside lasts for ages before needing to be redo.
I can't believe you didn't mention bay leaves! In my kitchen there is a door where I leave my cat's food and water. Each year, around this time, I start seeing ants come through the baseboard trying to get to my cats food. I read online to use bay leaves so I put a few bay leaves down beside the baseboard, but I did not kill the ants. I wanted to see if they would leave on their own and they did...that's the only place I ever see ants in my house so the bay leaves keep them away.
Living in the woods, it's extremely hard to control ants. My kitchen is the worse. Everything is clean, no sugary stuff left around, no dishes left dirty, all food properly wrapped and put up, but these damn ants are freaking uncontrollable! Im talking like, counter tops are covered! Its to the point i hate cooking in the warmer months! They win - I lose. Nothing is working!

I have found a very effective and damn cheap way to rid especially subterranean termites and it is very safe. All you need is a few kilos/pounds of solid granulated common salt. Pour the salt into the termites nests and around your house especially at the places where the pest is likely to sneak in like the cracks and crevices on the floor or walls. Do likewise inside your house. Repeat the process every three or four months, and you will be rid of these termites forever.

If you're going to use Termidor, as with any chemical, ALWAYS use it as per the label rates. In Australia you can only use it at 0.6% active ingredient concentrate. (Equates to 600ml per 100L or 6ml per liter in Metric terms) The active ingredient (Fipronil) in Termidor is a delayed action termiticide, it's power is in the fact that it slowly kills the termites, allowing them to pass the chemical on to one another, it also has the added benefit of being non repellant. One reason why chemicals fail is that they are misapplied. Always read the label and follow it strictly! It will pay off. (Don't think more chemical is better!)
Just a little advice, when your drilling outside slab where a glass door etc. is, put your body between the drill handle ( in your case would be the left side of the drill motor ) and the glass. That will stop the handle from breaking the glass if the bit gets hung on some rebar etc. and the drill kicks back.

You probably should of gone for Taurus SC, same active ingredient as Termidor but it's cheaper.

I basically used the same technique, 4" trench x 10' to 4 gallons, on the holes in the cement I poured 2 quarts in each hole (which I drilled 12" apart). 2 days later ( I made a sprayer nozzle for my pump up sprayer with a car metal brake line, which I made a very tiny hole in the side and sealed the end)(tried it sprays great) I sprayed some more solution into the holes (not a lot) I also sprayed into the air breather holes in the side of my brick house that go all around the house that are about 15 inches up from the dirt and 3 bricks apart. (You could drill?) (I did this to get between the brick and wall space) used solution 1.2 oz Taurus SC per gallon of water for all. Now to make sure I'm protected I'm going to use bora care inside my walls drilling holes in between studs and using sprayer to coat wood studs inside walls to further keep termites and wood borers out. Bora care is permanent, lasts forever they say. pests eat wood treated with bora care and die. I'm no professional but I did research all that I'm doing. I may bora care the wood in attic also in case dry wood termites ever invade?Been 4 days since I used the Taurus SC and I'm finding dead spiders, crickets, cockroaches, and ants around the outside of the house.

Bravo to you for taking this on yourself. I am a self taught general contractor going on 25 yrs and will at least try anything once. I even painted my own truck. I can relate to the negative comments on here. Most pros, not all, get a little miffed when someone takes on their job at a fraction of the cost especially when it is done in a competent way. Many times the owner or sales guy is great but in my experience its a crap shoot as to the quality of the actual worker showing up. Plus, if you are like me, I just can't stomach paying someone $1,000 to dig a trench and drill some holes. Electricians, plumbers, carpenters just ripping people with so called industry standard pricing. Yes, I know there are plenty of home owner hacks out there which justifies codes and licensing but come on....... Anything you can do yourself without endangering yourself or family, I say go for it and tell the pros it will cost $1,000 to clean their gutters
Great question so far no termites and I even went to the extent of going around the entire home to do another inspection and to be reassured had my people that work for a pest control company verify no termites, so far so good!!! Thanks for watching and subb in! CJ..

There is a reason professionals are paid the money they ask for treatment. Your first mistake was contacting a national franchised company. You will pay at least double over the local, small extermination company. Further the skill of the people sent to your house to inspect and apply chemicals is, in many of my experiences, marginal at best. To apply Termador or other chemicals in the State of CT requires training and an operators license for a reason. This video is, IMO, irresponsible.

Look at all the exterminators leaving negative comments trying to scare people into not doing it themselves.

Can you get rid of termites by burning something which produces a lot of smoke in the vicinity of the area with termites? Thank you for the great film.

where did you buy your termidor at?

Hi there mate. I have just bought a house on the Sunshine Coast in Australia. Had a termite inspection pre purchase they found old signs of termites. I am getting a few quotes in but may end up going the DIY option if they are too high. My only issue is we are 2 stories at the front and 1 at the back of the property so it is build into the hill a little. Not sure about getting to the slab at the back of the place...

Great question, so as a disclaimer I am no professional just a diyer..so Wiliah I had to do some research on the dry wood termites verses the subterranean termites...it apprears that gas fumigation is an option....but I tell you what if you have termites and you want to do it yourself..I would call the pest control diyers online stores, they are helpful...but for sub termites, I stand by this method, any body can do it and it works!!! NO MOre embarrsing SWORMS... hey good luck.tks for the sub.CJ

Diesel, first time hearing of that method, how would the diesel get to the colony for subterranean (under gourd) Thanks for watching and commenting..good luck!

I personally saved 2,000 for the original treatment and 250 per year for the renewal, therefore 5,000 over the life of the treatment, but countless for the knowledge of doing it myself and potential damage to the other structures, thanks for watching and please subscribe..for more great diyers! CJ

Glad its saving you big money, this is most definalty one of things you can really take out a day or weekend and save yourself thousands! I would go to sunbelt rentals...if you have one to rent the slab injector. The Chapin Premier should work as the I believe one of the professionals that commented on the vid said that between 30-40 psi will suffice. Thanks for watching and please be sure to sub in for more great diys. Thanks!

Nice work! You're saving me at least $3k here. I bought the Termidor SC and BoraCare from DYOPC.com. One question: where would you rent a sub slab injector from? I heard that in order to treat the soil, you need to inject the soil with pressure. Wondering if one of those Chapin Premier sprayers will work...they are rated at 40psi.

Pretty close to the real thing. A couple of comments for you. Before patching the holes pop corks in them about 1/4 of an inch down and apply your patch over that. Second, professionals use a sub slab injector at approximately 35 PSI to insure the chemical evenly spreads throughout the soil under the slab. The way you are introducing the chemical into the drilled holes does not create the barrier we try to accomplish. Still a great video!! Thanks

Thanks so much for the comments and advice. That is something I would like for everyone to consider when doing it themselves, I have a compressor maybe I could have or the people that are watching and deciding to do it themselves can rent the sub slab injector. That does make sense to make sure that under the slab the perimeter is covered. Again thanks for the comments and for watching. A professional is always appreciated!

Thanks James for your comments, however, I was remised in your crux for how and why this video, was solely in your opinion 'irresponsible', nevertheless I did have one of my good friends that owns a 'local, ..extermination company,' acknowledge that the application of this product was applied correctly. In the state I reside in, there is no requirement of an operator’s license and as far as experience with chemicals and application I believe my professional and education as a chemist might apply

Thanks for watching, however, I am not sure why you have sub-minded your comment to 'misinformation', however I stand assured that you didn't watch the entire video while comprehending the content provided. While your comments are mis-spoken let me verbalize, that the directions of application of the chemicals were followed in ordinance, furthermore as an Environmentalist/Chemist I am sure I might have a bit of training and expertise while working for some of the largest pesticide companies. V/R

Hi Country Side Club, as a professional i like your informative video,
however when applying Termidor to under the slab through drill holes it is stated on the label you need to apply 5-7 litres of mix per lineal meter, so by pouring through a funnel you will never achieve this, the soil under a slab is so compacted over time. The only way to get 5-7 litres of Termidor mix per lineal meter under a slab is to inject with a high pressure pump and injection rods. If you do not do this you will create a partial barrier. Please be aware that i have been to so many DIY jobs gone wrong! You may have saved some money but i would recommend getting a quote to finish the treatment off through the holes, or at least get regular inspections.

0:55 - fight and you may sweat. walk away, and you'll rest... at least a while. And comfy in your couch, many years from now, when your roof starts to fall off and your bank account is empty, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to keep your money in your wallet, to come back to today and tell those creatures that they may take our wood, but they'll never take... OUR HOME!

Great video. I have found termite activity inside my house and its freaking me out!! I'm kinda desperate because honestly I don't have the money to pay a professional. This video will be of great help. I'm sure I can get it done. Thanks for posting this video. I think theres one area outside my house where I'd have to drill the holes maybe more than 4 inches apart from the structure, will this make the treatment ineffective at all?? Any tips for drilling inside the house?? Thanks again!

I am an accredited Termidor applicator and I can assure you this method is not 'sure fire'. The holes must be a maximum of 8 inches apart and the termiticide must be injected under a minimum pressure of 70kpa. Just pouring it down the holes has no assurance of proper distribution. Furthermore, 10 litres per lineal metre is best for good results. The soil areas must be trenched 50mm past footings and at least 150mm wide. The trenches must be flooded and back-filled to obtain a horizontal and vertical treated zone. The type of soil also impacts on the treatment. Penny wise pound foolish.
Acting simultaneously in the event that you suspect that the home has termites is quite important. They're one of the most notorious home pests which plague houses not just in the India but from the whole planet. They are attracted to a lot of pieces of your home.

Why Almost Everything You've Learned About Signs of Termites in Walls Is Wrong
Amateur efforts may appear to be effective on the surface level, but it's rather uncertain that all potential issues are dealt with the most suitable way. Calling at a expert staff has become the most efficient method to eliminate white ants in your property. Flying termites

Entomology departments often receive more calls about termites than any other household insect. Termites can thoroughly destroy your home or business and can weaken the structure.

Do flying termites eat wood?

A termite swarmer is designed for the propagation of the species, not to eat wood. When these insects land on your home you must remember that a termite swarmer cannot harm you. These are the only termites which are sexually developed and are the future kings and queens of the next season's termite colonies.

What does it mean when termites lose their wings?

When flying termites swarm, you may feel helpless to protect your home. Ants and termites swarm to mate, then the males die, having fulfilled their life's purpose. After these mating flights, fertilized termites or the queens shed their wings, and go on to seek a nesting site to establish new colonies. These winged termites are larger than the worker termites, darker in color, and have compound eyes to allow them to see during the nuptial flight.

How do you get rid of termites on your own?

Out of all the countless insects and other pests that homeowners face, there are none that are as costly and as damaging as termites. Termites can cause a lot of damage to a home if given just half a chance. Only termites can single-handedly ruin and destroy a house's very foundation and character in just a few short years.

How do you treat a termite infestation?

There are two major methods of termite control. You can use liquid termite insecticides (termiticides) for barrier and soil treatment or use termite baits.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1237873233947026560.post-42363687212047577022018-09-05T18:45:00.001-07:002018-09-05T18:45:07.704-07:00Native Subterranean TermitesNative Subterranean Termites - Native subterranean termites are the most widely distributed subterranean termites and the most destructive insect pests of wood. These termites live in underground colonies or in moist secluded areas aboveground that can contain up to 2 million members. They cause billions of dollars in damage each year and have a negative impact on a family’s most valuable possession— the home.

They build distinctive mud tubes to gain access to food sources and to protect themselves from open air and this could lead to weakness in the ground underneath your house. Keeping in mind the fact that a house weighs a lot, this means that as the colony grows, the pressure that is exerted by the house on the land beneath it increases as the land gets weaker. This means that at some point, you may need to have to deal with conditions such as cracking of your floor. In many cases, this kind of damage can be very costly, in that the walls and floor could suddenly cave in and kill the people in the house. The control of these kinds of pests is, therefore, something that has to be taken very seriously, as it has an impact on many other lives and the longevity of your property.

Because subterranean termites will not only ruin the aesthetics of a house or a wooden building but also create severe structural damage to a house or building over time, it is extremely important to gain control of subterranean termites.

Most subterranean termite species that occur in the world is Reticulitermes flavipes (Kollar), is the most widely distributed subterranean termite, and it is the most common termite. Other species such as Heterotermes spp. is also of common occurrence. Due to its widespread distribution, R. flavipes is likely the most economically important termite in the world. The dark southeastern subterranean termite, Reticulitermes virginicus variety and the light southeastern subterranean termite, Reticulitermes hageni variety, are generally less economically important when compared to R. flavipes because they are not as widely distributed.

They are really so powerful that they even destroy the entire construction if left unattended. On the other hand, the eradication of termites is, however, a serious issue and fairly troublesome. There is no sole tactic in eradicating the menace and its reoccurrence cannot be avoided. It depends on the seriousness of infestation, the style of termites and its habitat. That speaks for the special attention of this issue. The main reason is that these small creatures (termites) have the ability to withstand the worst climate situation.
Termites mostly have a bad reputation in the human world, but in the overall ecosystem, that isn't so. Since they feed on wood, termites serve an important function by recycling dead trees into organic matter, or humus, which is then available to nourish living trees.

Unfortunately, the wood in our homes is just as palatable to termites as dead/dying trees in the forest. The latest industry estimates place the annual cost of damage to property and treatment cost at $5 billion worldwide. It is said that `no pest is more threatening to a structure than termites'. How to avoid the termite infestation in homes? Here are some points that could be of help.

Termites become a serious problem when they start consuming structural lumber. Each year thousands of housing units require treatment for the control of termites. Termites may also damage utility poles and other wooden structures. There are four types of termites such as Drywood termite, Dampwood termite, Formosan termites, and Subterranean termites. These pests cause serious damage to wooden structures and posts and may also attack stored food, books, and household furniture. The total weight of all of the termites in the world is more than the weight of all the humans in the world.

The social organization of termites includes reproductives, workers and soldiers. Termites are social and can form large nests or colonies, consisting of very different looking individuals or castes. PHYSICALLY THE LARGEST INDIVIDUAL IS THE QUEEN. Her function is to lay eggs, sometimes thousands in a single day. A king is always by her side. Other individuals have large heads with powerful jaws, or a bulblike head that squirts liquid. These individuals are called soldiers. But the largest group of termites in a colony is the workers. They toil long hours tending the queen, building the nest, or GATHERING FOOD. While other species of social insects have workers, termites are unique among insects in that workers can be male or female. Surprisingly, termites can be long-lived: queens and kings can live for decades while individual workers can survive for several years.

WHAT ARE SUBTERRANEAN TERMITES?
There are three major groups of termites which occur in the World drywood termites, Subterranean termites, and Formosan termites. Termites are identified by the appearance of the swarmers, their damage, and the droppings they leave behind. Subterranean termites or soil termites are social insects that live in societies whose members are mostly immature individuals. Their colonies, which can contain thousands to millions of termites, are formidable, even though each individual termite is soft-bodied and delicate. In nature, subterranean termites are closely ASSOCIATED WITH THE SOIL habitat where they tunnel to locate water and food like wood, fallen logs, and other cellulose-containing materials. Termites become a serious problem to humans when structures containing cellulose are built over or near their colonies in the ground. Termites are the major wood-destroying structural pests. On the average, there could be as many as 13 to 14 subterranean termite colonies per acre, which means that a typical home may easily have three to four colonies situated under or around it. And because there can be as many as 1,000,000 subterranean termites per colony, the threat of infestation becomes a very real big one. They are able to find weakened areas in the structure or areas of direct wood to ground contact, and feed on the cellulose. Soil termites cause about 95% of the termite-related damage found in the worldwide scenario. Like other types, this particular variety of termite eats cellulose for nutrition. Cellulose is found in wood and wood products.

Soil termites build earthen shelter tubes from the ground into the structure for protection from predators and to help maintain a moist environment. Many times these tubes are built on inside walls, porches, or chimneys where they cannot be seen.

Termites excavate galleries throughout their food as they consume it. They conceal their workings and can completely honeycomb wood by feeding along the grain and following the softer spring wood, leaving little more than a thin wooden exterior. Subterranean termites construct aboveground earthen runways that protect them from the drying effects of air as well as from natural enemies, such as ants. Termites are very susceptible to desiccation, and thus they are dependent on moisture sources. Termites work 24 hours a day. "Worker" termites bring food to the colony through tunnels, without ever resting.
Termites need moisture to survive and will die if exposed to sunlight or open air. Their tunnels protect them from the elements. High moisture areas like basements and crawl spaces are very attractive to termites and can serve as starting points for infestation.
In some rare situations, if water and wood are available from a source other than the soil, subterranean termites can establish a colony with no ground contact. Isolated, above-ground infestations may occur in buildings where termites have access to water from condensation, leaking pipes, roofs, or other sources. These type of termites are the most destructive insect pests of wood since they cause billions of dollars in damage each year and have a negative impact on a family’s most valuable possession— the home.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
